How to Install:

Installing with the sim NOT RUNNING:

To install the cumulus clouds:

Look inside your X-Plane folder, inside the Resources folder. You should see
a folder called bitmaps, and inside that you will find the world folder,
which contains the clouds folder. Inside the clouds folder, locate and back
up your original default cumulus file called puff_cloud_cumulus_1.png.
Replace the puff_cloud_cumulus_1.png with the file by the same name you
found in this package inside the Clouds folder.

Sim Settings:

Note: The settings you use while running the sim are important to the overall
look of these cumulus clouds, and how smoothly your computer runs with them.
I have doubled the image size of the cumulus PNG file to 1024 pixels, up from
512, but as you'll see, the settings used make it easier for the sim to render
since we are not going to use as many cloud puffs for sake of the larger cloud
size. There will always be a trade between how the clouds look from the
ground, and how they look while flying through them. The settings I am suggesting below are a good balance, but please feel free to experiment!

Rendering Options:

Then look for the 3-D Cloud Controls, and set the number of cloud
puffs to 00.3, and the size of the cloud puffs to 01.6.

Weather Options:

In the sim, under Settings, and then Weather, you have three levels or
layers of weather you can set on the upper left portion of the screen. Set the
top layer to clear, the second layer to cu scattered, with cloud tops at
21,000 and cloud bottoms to 18,000. Set the lower layer to cu scattered as well, with cloud tops at 15,000 feet, and cloud bottoms at
12,000. Experiment all you want. I found that two layers adds depth and
realism, although the hit on your computer's system will be greater. One
layer (try the bottom) of cumulus clouds looks just fine too. Look also at your
airport elevation or altitude and compensate for that, since obviously you
may want to add or subtract your base elevation from the figures I gave
above.

A note about sim texture resolution: The overall quality of the cloud
textures, especially while flying in and around them, will directly depend on
how high you can run your sim resolution. It will of course look fantastic if you
manage to run extreme res!, but it is tolerable and can look quite nice with
the settings outlined above with the sim running at very high resolution.
